Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE)

The MCSE is the benchmark certification for IT professionals in a networking environment. The MCSE certification shows you have proven expertise in a typically complex computing environment within medium to large organisations. The MCSE also allows you to choose an elective subject that will give you diversity in the workplace, such as SQL, Security or Exchange.

Individuals who earn the MCSE certification have the skills necessary to lead organisations in the successful design, implementation, and administration of the most advanced Microsoft Windows platform and Microsoft server products.

Examples of your target job titles include:

  • Systems Engineers
  • Technical Support Engineers
  • Systems Analysts
  • Network Analysts
  • Technical Consultants
Studying for the MCSE.

You gain MCSE certification once you have passed 7 MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) exams. If you are familiar with the Microsoft Windows platform and use operating systems, servers and networks on a daily basis you should expect to take between 3-6 months to complete the MCSE.

For those that are new to the IT industry or are looking change or start a new career you should allow slightly longer study time. There is a lot to learn and it covers many subjects and as with all other professions there is no quick fix to becoming qualified, beginners should allow up to one year to complete the MCSE.
