Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDBA)

The Microsoft Certified Database Administrator certification is appropriate for professionals who derive physical database designs, develop logical data models, create physical databases, create data services by using Transact-SQL, manage and maintain databases, configure and manage security, monitor and optimise databases, and install and configure SQL Server.

The MCDBA certification is appropriate for database specialists who can demonstrate that they have the skills necessary to lead organisations in the successful design, implementation, and administration of databases with the MCDBA credential.

• Database Administrator
• Database Analyst
• Database Developer
• Web Application Developer
• Internet Developer

MCDBA candidates are required to pass four exams to achieve certification, three core exams and one elective. For the core section, candidates are required to pass one SQL Server administration exam, one SQL Server design exam and a Windows 2000 Server exam to fulfill the networking systems core requirements. The elective provides proof of expertise with a specific Microsoft server product.

Studying for the MCDBA.

You gain MCDBA certification once you have passed 4 MCP (Microsoft Certified Professional) exams. If you are familiar with the Microsoft Windows platform and use, servers, networks and SQL on a daily basis you should expect to take between 2-4 months to complete the MCDBA.

For those that are new to the IT industry or are looking change or start a new career you should allow slightly longer study time. There is a lot to learn and it covers many subjects and as with all other professions there is no quick fix to becoming qualified, beginners should allow up to six months to complete the MCDBA.

What’s the salary for an MCDBA?

The MCSA certification will help to increase your value in the workplace and qualify your IT skills. With a couple of years experience you would expect to earn £25-35k and the average wage for a MCDBA in the UK is £44,000.
